About us

Our office

St-Jacques & Daoust, notaires Inc. was founded about 25 years ago by Sophie St-Jacques, notary. Then working solo, she worked hard to develop her expertise, in particular in property law, and to serve her customers well. This lead her customer base to increase rapidly through the years.

Her daughter, Me Jessica Daoust, joined the office in 2014 and contributed to develop the division of the successions and of personal law. Now comprising 4 notaries after Me Stéphanie Samson and Me Camille Morneau joined the study, and because of the hard work of the employees, the study offers services in property law, personal law, succession, non contentious procedures, and family law.

The mutual support between the four notaries and the share of expertise is our strength, as well as our customer service which focuses on giving a full guidance through your judicial process to make it easy and simple for you.

The notaries

Me Sophie St-Jacques, notary

Having already worked as an administrative assistant for notaries and as an administrative assistant for a director of a financial institution, the passion for the law was already set in for this young person who first dedicated her time to her work and to her husband’s business. In 1992, she threw the dices and enrolled in law school. During those years, through the birth of her children, taking care of the family business and studying full time, the sacred fire of the law became evident.

In 1999, by getting her master’s degree in notarial law, she funded the study Me Sophie St-Jacques, notaire. Already known in the field, she had the chance to see a faithful customer base establish itself. Being there to listen to her customers, either regulars or business clients, she had the pleasure to accompany them in all their life aspects. Even today, 25 years later, the attachment that she has for her clients show through their fidelity and the trust that they give her.

In 2014, when her daughter, Me Jessica Daoust, joined the business, Me Sophie St-Jacques saw it as a blessing. The calendars were full and the expertise and fresh breeze that she brought got the new study, St-Jacques & Daoust, notaires Inc, to new horizons. Because of those changes, it was now possible to provide an equal care to the division of succession, personal law and family law as it was already the case for property law. Their different vision while maintaining harmony and their diversified approach brought the best solutions and advice for our clients.

The years 2020 brought us beautiful challenges and unexpected technological progress. Me Sophie St-Jacques, who had always encouraged any technological advance for the office, saw it as an opportunity to integrate those changes in the methods of the notaries and employees.

This technological advance brought her to join a comity of instructors of the Association professionnelle des notaires du Québec (APNQ) to teach to her colleagues from other offices to apply those changes and be ready for the major digital reform that will become obligatory in 2025.

She is also getting training to soon become a small claims mediator.

Me Jessica Daoust, notary

We can definitely say that Jessica Daoust was part of this world as soon as her early childhood! Indeed, when she was only a child, she would accompany her mother, Me Sophie St-Jacques, in what we use to call the registry office to assist her in getting the documents necessary for her to do a title examination. Her first job was also to join the office as an administrative assistant as soon as 2004 and until she finished her degrees.

It’s without surprises that she chose to get her Law Degree at the University of Montreal, which was completed in 2012, and for which she received many awards while also being part of the dean’s list. She then completed her Notarial Law Degree at the same university in 2013 and got the Fonds des professionnels grant for the excellence of her results.

Following her admission to the profession in 2014, she joined the study of Sophie St-Jacques who then became St-Jacques & Daoust, notaires Inc. She benefited from the teachings and experience of her mentor to develop her own expertise in property and personal law, and worked to further develop the division of succession, family law and non contentious procedures to better the service in those matters.

You can count on her to have a rational and knowledgeable outlook of the law to analyze your situation, while also bringing a human and sensible touch to those events that bring you to consult her.

Me Stéphanie Samson, notary

Me Stéphanie Samson first got a Translation Degree at the University of Montreal in 2009, before pursuing a Law Degree at the same university in order to work as a judicial translator.

Then, she fell in love with the law and especially notarial law while in her studies and decided to not only get her Law Degree in 2012 but also her Notarial Law Degree in 2013.

She became a notary officially in 2014 following an internship in a study situated in the South Bank of Montreal, during which she notably learned about property law. In November 2016, she joined the St-Jacques & Daoust, notaires Inc. study. Since then, she specialized in her field of predilection that is property law and which constitute her exclusive practice.

She also has an accreditation in non contentious procedures before a notary since 2017.

Her good listening skills, her empathy, and her ability to simplify and popularize her explanations make her a welcome asset to our office and our clientele.

Me Camille Morneau, notary

The law having always been a point of interest for her, Camille Morneau completed her Law Degree at the University of Quebec at Montreal in 2019. She then got her Notarial Law Degree at the University of Sherbrooke. The notarial practice path was always more than a possibility for her, but instead a goal.

The notarial practice signifies, for her, proximity with her clients, but also the possibility to accompany them through all the important steps in their life, such as the beginning of an union, buying a first house, adopting a child, loosing a loved one or having to care for a significant other that is not able to do so anymore.

Empathy and dedication while acting in complete legality are parts of her values in her profession. Her commitment to make her clients at ease and satisfied or her work guide her daily.

Having done an internship in 2021 at St-Jacques & Daoust, notaires Inc. with experienced and accomplished notaries, ready to share their knowledge, she feels ready to face any challenge that may be brought onto her, let in be in property law, personal law, family law, succession or non contentious procedures.

The administration team

Sophie Chartier

A true pillar to our organization, it between her expert hands that most of the files regarding immovables go through. She is also able to take care of any other type of file. Nothing escapes her eyes; we often tell her that she is our 5th notary and that the only thing missing is the official degree. Being a member of our team for 18 years, she has a great analytic and judicial instinct. She is always looking to insure a safe and good transaction for our clients. This is the person that we can always count on. We know that her work will be of quality and that she has a high professional consciousness.

Thomas Daoust

He is the youngest of our team but none the least. He works part time at our study while being at school since 2020. Back then, at 14 years old, he was a true revelation to all of us. His academic qualities, his professional consciousness and his seriousness truly show through his work. He took a lot of initiatives to help all the staff and quickly became essential. Being of the digital generation, he also assists us in our complete transformation to an office without papers.

Nancy Laurin

She used to be an administrative assistant for the family business for many years and was already back then helping with the notarial study. In 2012, she officially joined the team but all our clients will be able to tell you: she’s part of the furniture! Everybody knows Nancy, and she knows everybody. She has an unfailing memory and remembers everyone personally. She is the first person that you will see when you come in the office, and you won’t be disappointed of her warm and professional reception. Her excellent knowledge of notarial law makes her an unparalleled ally. She will be able to plan and manage your file to be sure to meet the deadlines and will also do the necessary follow-ups to assist you.

Nancy Lefebvre Marquis

She joined the team in 2021 in the busiest part of the year. Being an experienced administrative assistant, we benefited from her knowledge in different matters, such as property law, succession, non contentious procedures and in business law. She will tackle any task that is given to her and know how to act promptly to get your file to the finish line. She will also be able to help you through some difficult times with her empathy and dedication to your file and will make sure to rigorously follow-up on everything that needs to be done. She is also always the first one to volunteer herself to help her team and is a great support for all of our departments when it is needed.

Mélodie Marin

Mélodie joined us in 2019 after being an assistant for a real estate agency for a few years. A young and precious finding for our study, she is a real gem for us. You will feel her smile through your phone calls with her. Being a kind listener, having the patience of a saint and a real preoccupation for the client, she will guide you through the process as humanly as possible. How many clients ask us to thank Mélodie for her support! She mastered perfectly her job and will be able to jumpstart your file!
